The JOB’S DAUGHTERS Robe
During meetings and special events Job's Daughters wear a white "Grecian style" robe. All Daughters wear the robe to remind them that they are all equal.
The Yoke is one continuous piece of material. It represents an unbroken circle symbolizing “life everlasting” and our Job's Daughter life. It emphasizes that in our lessons we worship a living Savior and are guided by the Light of His Word. It is a constant reminder to us to "Remember Thy Creator in the days of our Youth".
The basic pattern of the Sleeve is a square, to remind us of the many square corners in the floor work of our Ritual.
The shape of the Yoke depends upon the body of the Robe, just as the body depends upon the yoke for proper support. We feel that the gathers of the body and sleeve represent the many friends we make in Job's Daughters. Just as the body of the robe shapes the yoke, our Bethel friends influence our life.
The cord is a collection of parts, reminding us that the unity of our purpose is our strength. It may also include our friends in school, church, and social life outside of the Bethel. The character of our friends makes our cord of life strong or weak. As the cord is wrapped around us, it is as though the arms of our friends and the arms of the Master Masons who give us Heritage are giving us strength. It reminds us to do all in our power to live uprightly and worthy of their protection.
The cord is secured by three twists, reminding us that life everlasting is built upon the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity. The Twists are also a symbol of praying hands. It reminds us of our position while accepting the Obligation of Membership in Job's Daughters.
To hold the cord in its proper place we tie it in a square knot. As we tie this knot, we are reminded of our pledge to face life squarely for success. When the cord is tied correctly it forms a triangle - the emblem of our Order.
The ancient High Priests tied bells at the end of the cords of their habits. As the Priests walked through the villages, the bells announced their arrival and called the people to prayer. The modern symbol of a bell is the Tassel. We wear our tassels proudly, announcing to all that we are Job’s Daughters. The tassels on the ends of our cords are also a reminder that not only our Bethel, but the entire International Order of Job's Daughters is judged by our actions
Our robe is three inches from the floor. It is one of the most symbolic numbers as reflected by:
The Holy Family
The Trinity
The ideal family - Mother, Father, and Child
The three Daughters of Job
The three major Prayers of the ritual
The three Epochs
Job's three friends from the far East
Our three Daughters in the East of the Bethel
Most of all it represents:
The Three Degrees men take to become a Master Mason
and to give us our Masonic Heritage.
